These resources have been created by Ester de Boer to be used in conjunction with Raymund and the Fear Monster.
Draw your Fear Monster
Please note, this is a guided exercise and is more than drawing a scary monster, or something which scares the child or yourself |
|
Talking to your Fear Monster
Another guided exercise. |

Climbing Monster Mountain
The objective of this activity is to provide a visual reference or tool for the child to use in order to see the possibility of facing their fear not as one, enormous “monster” to fight, but as a series of little steps. They’re not being forced to do something scary- they’re choosing to walk the mountain and they’re in control of every part of the process. This is not designed as a whole class activity, but as a private, one-to-one activity for children who are struggling in one aspect of their school experience because of anxiety. |

Friend or Foe Card Game
This game has been created to promote discussion whether fear is your friend or your foe. The reality is that Fear can be your friend or your foe in different situations. Can you discover when is Fear being your friend or your foe? |

Sustainability
As the author, Megan Higginson, and the illustrator, Ester de Boer, of Raymund and the Fear Monster both grew up in North Queensland and lived for a time in a style of house know as a “Queenslander”, and Raymund and the Fear Monster is set in the Philippines, a few activities around the environment and housing in the resources have been included. This includes: a look at and study of houses from around the world, a word search, and a Seek and Find activity. |
